Minnesota and Wisconsin girls, ages 12 to 18, invited to participate in Global Girls Day.

Activities and team projects will help girls take action on issues affecting girls and women worldwide.

St. Paul, Minnesota (May 1, 2007)—Girls International Forum announced today that it will be sponsoring its second annual Global Girls Day Saturday, June 23, 2007, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Girls of all backgrounds and cultures are invited to gather, learn new ideas, and develop skills for working together and addressing issues in their own communities as well as worldwide.

Convening at Macalester College in St. Paul, participants will learn more about global issues facing them. They will hear updates from girl leaders on the actions undertaken by the international teams of girls that attended the International Girls Summit held last summer.

"Girls will acquire the skills they need to become effective advocates for themselves," said Zora Radosevich, Girls International Forum Executive Director. "Workshops sessions include practical goal setting; working with policymakers; formulating issue positions; and writing effective letters. Each girl will also practice public speaking, preparing and delivering a brief presentation about the plan of action they worked on throughout the day."

Global Girls Day provides the opportunity for participants to work in teams and creatively debate actions girls can take in their own communities that address the rights of girls worldwide. It will be a day filled with conversations, workshops, team-building and skill-building sessions.

"During Global Girls Day, girls have a chance to learn about critical issues facing their peers around the world, and more importantly, shape their own ideas for making the world a better place," said Radosevich. "The day will give rise to new friendships and call attention to the need for improvement in the lives of girls everywhere.”

Girls can register at www.globalgirlsday.org

Parents, teachers, and group leaders are encouraged to attend along with the girls and participate in advocacy training sessions for women mentors. Call (651) 645-3636 for more information.
